    Calling and Called Party name

I rent a rack form INE and I was trying to test calling name and called name appearance between the Campus IP phones and PSTN Phone.

But I faced some problems. At the end I found this command in INE PSTN router:

    isdn gateway-max-interworking

after removing the previous command and add isdn outgoing display-ie, I can see the calling name in called party phone but I am not able to see the called name in the calling party phone. Below more details:

if I called to 911from IP phone, the screen shows:

IP Phone: to 911  No name for the calling party.
PSTN Phone: Form HQ Phone 1 2001

if I make call from PSTN to IP phone:
    PSTN : to 177552001
    IP Phone:  from Emergency Services

    Any help? Any hints?

Anything should be adjusted on PSTN Router?

My gateway is MGCP and l3 backhauled to CUCM

Re: Calling and Called Party name

You shouldn't have to touch the PSTN router in the Racks, and in the LAB they won't even let you anywhere near it.

What you have to concider is this:

What kind of isdn are you connecting with. The two kinds found at the racks at INE behave quite different. isdn primary-ni needs a different configuration for calling name than the isdn primary-net5 (euro)

If you are at BR2, a simple "isdn outgoing display-ie" should do the trick (If you have configured accordingly in CUCM).

But at HQ and BR1, You shoud look at other isdn commands under the serial interface, and possibly another chackbox in the CUCM MGCP configuration page.

I suggest you take a look at this document (It's for older CUCM, but the chackbox I am thinking of is still valid). http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_tech_note09186a0080237271.shtml#cm_call_party_name

And check this reference guide for isdn commands. I am sure you'll find the appropriate command here: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_3t/voice/command/reference/vrht_i2_ps5207_TSD_Products_Command_Reference_Chapter.html

    Hope this helps,

Re: Calling and Called Party name

    Hi 2ccievoice,

Please send us your CorpHQ R1 config, and specify if you are using MGCP on CorpHQ R1 or not.

It looks here like you are sending CNAM (calling name) in the FacilityIE, so I would suspect that you have the necessary command "isdn supp-service name calling" included, but perhaps not?

If all else fails, please try sending calling name in DisplayIE (rather than in FacilityIE). It could simply be how this PSTN configuration is setup.

Which BTW, FacilityIE is only supported for CNAM on a ISDN Primary-NI (National/National2) switch type. That being said, even if you were using (or told to use) ISDN Primary-NI in the actual lab exam (which would, in normal real-life operations, necessitate the usage of FacilityIE for CNAM), that wouldn't necessarily mean that the lab's PSTN router would be setup to handle it. And while in in normal real-life operations, ISDN Primary-NI does not support the the usage of DisplayIE, and spits back a "Bad Information Element", with a Cisco IOS router as the PSTN, DisplayIE for CNAM works just fine with all ISDN switch types. So using it may be what you might have to fall back to in the actual CCIE lab exam.

    HTH.

    Hi Mark,

Unfortunately, I did not find the configuration of the devices that I made.

I will rent a rack soon and try again,

But I am using MGCP with T1.

    ISDN switch type Primary-ni

In GW configuration I checked display-ie and then I checked all other related IE checkboxes including facility IE

Sorry for asking too much but as you know it is not easy to rent a 6 hours rack to test something requires short time, so could you please advise me what are the things that I can test and configure to solve this problem

    Hi 2ccievoice,

If you are using a MGCP PRI with Primary-NI (and with the original workbook labs, not the new Deep Dives or new workbook labs), then try checking the DisplayIE tick box, and checking the 'debug isdn q931' not only on the egress HQ R1 GW, but also by telnetting into the PSTN router and running the same debug just to see if the CNAM is coming in via DisplayIE, and then let us know your findings.

    Kind Regards,
