    Failed SP due to EOQ

       Hi

I am just writing to let know that i failed on 18 feb on san jose the SP lab. The Lab exam was long and i was enough prepared for lab and passed that section, the EOQ was the big issues, 3 of the question i wrong, got some easy questions but out of my mind. I will try again within 2months. I think CCIE now is kind of luck because, if u got easy question u most likely pass the lab. Lab portion is not so bad, its really nice due to the very chalenge troubleshooting. I luv troubleshooting.

       Some advices for the EOQ?

so painful, now everywhere, it is very difficult to pass ccie.

by the way, the only thing we can do to face OEQ , we have to read alot of white paper, technology, and try to memorize all of these staff.

I don't think OEQs are luck. If you know the material, you should have no problem. If you don't pass the OEQs, even if you can configure the lap portion, you clearly don't have the knowledge you should have, by that point.

Study harder, do more labs, and do lots of troubleshooting (have somebody remote into your rack and change something, and then try figuring out what they did). Troubleshooting is the best way to learn the blueprint topics inside and out.

OEQs are not a gamble, they are a measure of your readyness to have those digits beside your name.

Well, if the OEQ part is an open test, then I would agree with you. Remembering which protocol ID L2TPv3 uses such kind of things isn't fun, but I am sure everybody here can figure it out in a few minutes with document provided.

That's the whole point. Making the OEQ an open test would make them very easy. That would defeat the point. They are meant to be questions that you could answer if you knew what you were doing, but would have no idea about if you don't.

Also, questions like "which protocol ID L2TPv3" aren't used for the OEQs. I'm not sure what gave you the impression that such questions were used.

Chris, you might be a bit lost, this is the SP forum. "Which protocol ID for L2tp" is still a gimme in my opinion since its the same as the administrative distance of ISIS, therefore it is easy to remember and something you will definitely have come across in your SP studies, what I saw is much worse and not something you would have seen in SP studies. It is as they say above, luck of the draw at the moment.

It will improve as the SP content developers get a realistic feel for the detail they need to go into. Give them another month or two.

You think? Do some research about SP OEQ then you will see what I am talking about. Don't panic when you see this kind of questions in the OEQ but you just don't remember it.

Re: Failed SP due to EOQ

    Hi,

I have seen a lot of complains about OEQ in SP recently and I started wondering what is the reason that this part of the exam seems to be so difficult.

Theory (and Cisco announcement) says that OEQs are based on lab blueprint. So here is the main question to CCIE SP wannabies who took the SP lab exam in last several weeks - was there anything in OEQs which is NOT specified in the lab blueprint?

I'm not asking anyone to break NDA, but honest answer (fully blueprint based vs. some stuff outside blueprint) will give us better understanding of the problem.

Seba, good question, I'll give you an example of a theory question that falls under the SP blueprint and you can make up your own conclusion. How I derived at this question is to look at the blueprint, googled the tech and this is the first question that popped up, very lazy and its on the blueprint after all.

"List the seven RSVP message types"

Just reading this question gives me flashbacks. It hits the nail right on the head. Most prepared candidates will be able get 4 or 5, maybe 6 of them, but no one in their right mind will recall all 7.

Its laughable, but again, give the content developers a couple of months to wake up and smell the coffee. As one of my lecturers often said, to ask good exam questions you need to understand the topic thoroughly. Perhaps the content developers are also reading.

Another example of a lazy question that gives me that lovely warm and fuzzy nostalgia:

"What does the acronym PADT stand for in a PPPOE context?"

Same method: blueprint tech, google, fire. There is just no defense.

*EDIT* Screw it, I really don't care. Study and you will have no issues.

So what are the 7 message types? From what I can tell, they are:

    PATH

    PATH ERROR

    RESERVATION

    RESERVATION ERROR

    PATH TEAR

    RESERVATION TEAR

what is the 7th? CONFIRMATION MESSAGE?
