    First attempt - impressions

    Greetings,

As I was writing this up I got my score report. OEQs - PASSED, TROUBLESHOTTING - PASSED, CONFIGURATION - FAIL.

This is my first post on INE and today was my first time to sit the CCIE lab

My general impression of the lab was that A) it was doable but very tough B) I completely underestimated the troubleshooting section and C) time management and SPEED are key!

On troubleshooting I completed 8 of 10 as far as I can tell. I ran out of time on the last two which were related, both MPLS/BGP/VRF based situations. I actually misread the question and waisting a lot of time 'fixing' something that wasn't the issue.

I think I got 3 of 4 correct on the OEQs, the fourth was about security and I just had to make a guess.

What I got hammered on that I need to study up on: MPLS, IPv6 multicast, security.

Thanks INE for all the great study materials. Hopefully I will eventually pass...

Sorry to hear about your lab.  Although failing is hard and you were so close to passing; I wanted to 'thank you' for your story because it helps us all have a better understanding of what to expect.

Keep the faith, my friend.  You can do it.

Thanks for the kind words. I am back to studying after my week off to allow myself to reset. I am going to see if I can get a seat next month for my second attempt.

Seriously, when i read these posts it gives me more motivation to get back to studying and having a go myself. I feel more inspired by the people who get knocked down and then get back up again to eventually triumph. More so than the people that sail straight through or get knocked down and say "that's enough!"

How well would you say you study the Vol 1-4 worksbooks and how much did it help you in the exam?

    Re: First attempt - impressions

Vol 1 - thorough study (went through multiple times to verify I had a solid understanding of everything)

Vol 2 - moderate study (I have been through LB2 once)

Vol 3 & 4 - lightly studied, by the time I got to these I already felt comfortable with the material, mostly just used it for speed practice and some troubleshooting tips, I pretty much just skimmed through.

    ---

INE Lab book 1 & 2 were vital. I am going back through lab book 2 right now. I think LB2 is the most important of the four to study and know well.
