Yes [Y] SP OEQ preparation - let's groupstudy!

    hi group..

having heard of the stories on crappy SP OEQs from so many and
afterwards facing them, a thought came in the mind to form a group and
ask each other all these paranoid tech questions we can think of....i
think tht can prepare us for the big battle pretty well. whosoever
believes in this thought can unicast me. We can form a group and get
    prepared.

having dived deep into FR today, i devised a bunch of these -

    1. wht DLCI is used for multicast?
    2. whts the size of LMI packet?
    3. whts the information element field in LMI packet? whts is its length
    for each LMI type?
    4. what parameter does the max do. of DLCIs depend?
    5. for a MTU of 1400, how many max DLCI are possible for Cisco and
    ANSI types receptively?
    6. how are keepalives exchanged on FR? can they be disabled?
    7. is it mandate for FR encap to match between DTE and DCE ? how about
    DTE to DTE?
    8. types of FR encap and types of FR LMI?
    9. is LMI unidirectional or bidirectional ?
    10. what FRF standard deals with VoFR? what is FRF.12? can we run
FRF.12 and FRF.11 on the same DLCI?

these are sample, we can group together and throw such questions ....

    (pls. respect NDA)

    cheers

Good thinking through there, but I think you are concentrating on some minutia (needless details) for some of them!

    1. wht DLCI is used for multicast?    (Decent question)
    2. whts the size of LMI packet?        (More of a "who cares" minution IMHO)
    3. whts the information element field in LMI packet? whts is its length
for each LMI type?     (Again, minutia)
    4. what parameter does the max do. of DLCIs depend?           (I'll assume you mean "no." for number?  But the wording will need to be worked on)
    5. for a MTU of 1400, how many max DLCI are possible for Cisco and ANSI types receptively?    (Again, not even sure what you're asking.  Unrelated)
    6. how are keepalives exchanged on FR? can they be disabled?               (Decent question)
    7. is it mandate for FR encap to match between DTE and DCE ? how about DTE to DTE?             (reword, since it has nothing to do with DCE/DTE)
    8. types of FR encap and types of FR LMI?                   (Could be more detailed, but decent)
    9. is LMI unidirectional or bidirectional ?                      (Decent question)
    10. what FRF standard deals with VoFR? what is FRF.12? can we run FRF.12 and FRF.11 on the same DLCI?    (Kinda gives away part of answer!)

    hi Scott,

i agree on "who cares minution" pharse but unfortunately such silly questions r there in the exam...

..to my frustration, i got a vry wierd one on my last attempt...after the exam i had to take a wireshark capture, then research based on the finding...to my surprise i found the specification in one of the draft-RFC but when the RFC was officially numbered, the specification was removed!

i have the reason to be paranoid ..i have seen them :)

Re: SP OEQ preparation - let's groupstudy!

From the feedback I had from recent SP lab takers (Without breaking NDA), most of the questions are based on SP core topics only like MPLS, MPLS TE, VPNs, IS IS, MBGP, Inter AS Multicast.

On the flip side, you really need to know frame-relay that deeply ? although I am not a CCIE like many others here, I don't think we need to dive that deeper unless you really wanna prove yourself as GOOD. All FR questions I see here doesn;t look relative (atleast most of them). So can I configure Frame-relay in the lab without knowing this ?...sure...anytime

Also I have never seen some ccie candidate claiming that he was been asked OEQs on RFC level (bit, byte and packet level). I personally feel that if I am gonna read RFC or entire book from cisco press on frame relay anyways then why do even I need to buy IE Workbook ?

Also personally I assume that things they gonna ask in OEQs should be some way from DOC CD only and I don't see doc cd covering frame relay this deeper.

    So just my two cents.....

Yes Deepak you are right most of questions coming from SP Core MPLS, MPLS TE, VPNs, IS IS, MBGP, Inter AS Multicast.

We don't have to go deeper in the FR.

Actually what is big problem whose taking lab they are not sharing which question or which type of question is coming ?

    Anyway...

Good topic to discuss about OEQ.

What i can understand is they can ask you a question from the any part of SP Lab Blueprint

so don't expect you can get only from CORE SP , MPLS VPN

as you never whats coming .......

Re: SP OEQ preparation - let's groupstudy!

I failed my CCIE SP lab exam. I saw OEQs for the very first time. I missed two of them. I was so paranoid after reading some feedback from individuals that I solely focused on preparing for the OEQs my last 3 weeks. I used my CCIE SP written questions, the Internetworking Expert OEQ's, some 60 questions I found online (which I'll share), and some OEQ material for the R/S exam (due to some overlap). I must have reviewed 500+ questions, I've read many many books, and I still failed OEQ. Here are my thoughts on the OEQs. Two of my questions were fair questions. One of my questions stated to refer to a diagram, but there was no diagram. I asked the proctor, and he told me to answer the question without it. The last question, although a good question, I don't feel is core knowledge. It's something I've done once or twice, but I didn't remember.

I wish everyone doing CCIE SP good luck.
