My question is in regards to the Vol1 Diagram:

Am I supposed to figure out what devices are included in each IGP protocol if they are not included
in the workbook diagram for vol 1? I included a pic of the volume 2 so
that you can see the difference.

Thanks in advance,

i am having issues around the wording on the some of the workbooks, for example, when it says this,

Configure R4 and R5 with identical static routes for each others Loopback0 networks out of their frame relay connections and point to point connections between them.

The statement above, does this mean use an interface as the next hop? or does it mean use an IP address.

In my login account, under Vol 1 (ver 5.0 labs) there is a master initial configuration file then there are initial configuration files listed under some of the technologies. Example, for multicast, under the master initial config set, there are initial configs. Then on the multicast folder, another initial config set exist. In comparing both, they are different. Which should i be using?

The solution provided for task 14.7 seems to be inaccurate, at least it makes me very confused.

configuring summary-address on R6 does not remove the BGP route to 172.16.8.8/32 received from R5. If only SW1 will see a /16 summary it makes sense.

In the solution-part it is stated that "If a router receives a summary-LSA with the down bit set on an interface that belongs to VRF, it simply drops this SLA". SW1 will indeed drop this LSA if it is an LSA type 3, but R6 will send the summary 172.16.0.0/16 as LSA type 5, not 3. This is simply not an issue with the summary-address configuration on R6.

But, if the summary-address 172.16.0.0 255.255.0.0 is configured on R5, R6 will redistribute this as an LSA3 to SW1, and the down bit check on LSA type 3 on SW1 is definitely an issue.

I have just started ppreparing for the lab ...using Dynamips now....can someone please tell me how everything is setup...

I see some topology diagrams and device initial configurations under my IE account for every lab workbook....questions I have:

What is the difference between physical and logical cabling digram....I assume Physical WAN cabling diagram is how all the devices are physically connected using a Frame Relay cloud...this Frame Relay cloud is built using a number of switches right?? The physical LAN cabling diagram is how the deives are connected in the LAN...the switches seem to connected in a full-mesh....what that ...

How can I distinguish the Physical LAN/WAN diagram from the Logical diagram.....in the lab we'll be given only the logical correct??? so we simply follow the logical digrams for all out lab configurations....we dont really care about how the devices are phyically wired right???

The troubleshooting sections ...do they have have a different logical digram in the lab???

The initial device configurations are ones that are devices come prelaoded with right??? so basically all the wiring and logical designs are set...you are given scenarios and tasks that need to be completed during the exam...

Are the physical and logical diagrams same for Vol1 and vol2 workbook labs

i believe there is a inconsistency in the configuration around R6 Switch2 and Switch4. in the initial configuration for the R6 there is only one FastEthernet configured. In the Physical LAN Cabeling you'll find two connections. One to the Switch2 and one to the Switch4. Since there is no configuration for the fa0/6 on the Switch4 i assume this connection is not used.

Could you please confirm my assumptions.

I will read the task from the solution guide, complete the task, and then scroll down and check my answer.

My complaint is the taks in the solution guide differ from the taks in the workbook. BGP 7.12 is the perfect example of this. Also, it would be great if the reload devices and apply x configuration was part of the task in the solution guide. Below is the 7.12 task from the solution guide vs workbook.

Here is the workbook

7.12 iBGP Synchronization
• Remove all BGP the configuration on the devices in AS 100.
• Configure BGP on all internal devices, with the exception of R2, using AS
100.
• Configure iBGP peerings from R1 to all other devices in AS 100.
• Configure EBGP peerings between R4 & BB3 and R6 & BB1 using their
directly connected links; BB1 and BB3 are in AS 54.
• Configure EBGP peerings between R2 & R3 and R2 & R5.
• Advertise the Loopback0 interfaces of all devices into BGP.
• Disable iBGP Synchronization on all devices in AS 100.
• Ensure full reachability to the Loopback0 interfaces from all internal
devices, and to all prefixes learned from AS 54 and AS 254 from all
internal devices when sourcing traffic from the Loopback0 interfaces.
Note
Revert all devices to the Initial BGP initial configurations prior to continuing.

And here is the solution guide

7.12 iBGP Synchronization
• Disable iBGP Synchronization on all devices in AS 100.
• Ensure full reachability to the Loopback0 interfaces from all internal
devices, and to all prefixes learned from AS 54 and AS 254 from all
internal devices when sourcing traffic from the Loopback0 interfaces.

Building compound Frame switch and splitting configs across routers

Hello all, I have a quick question I'm hoping someone can help me out with. I'm currently in the process of building out the lab. I have 2 2821s' that I'm going to use as the frame-relay switches. So I'm creating a compound frame switch with routers R1-R3 (3 having 2 connections) in one router and routers R4-R6 (in addition to the serial connection to BB3) on the second router. I have the tunnel and asyc interfaces all configured and working. My question is regarding splitting up the BB1.txt configuration (Internetwork Expert BB1 Initial Config Version 4.6). Since the BB1 configuration is essentially a combo of the FRS (frame relay switch) and BB1 configuration; I'm needing to split my routers up and create a compound FRS what if any configurations (besides the Interface specific) ones would I need to put on the other router..in my case frame-relay switch 2?

For example, in the main BB1.txt config we are creating loopbacks, virtual templates etc. Since I'm breaking my config up between 2 routers is it logical to assume that I would just need to enter any interface specific configurations on the second router that are not needed on the first (like the virtual templates that are not going to be used on my first router since serial 6 does not exist, but rather only exists on the second frame switch router).

Has anyone done this? I'm using 2X 2821's each with 4X WIC-1DSU-T1-V2s, the AUX ports are connected via a rollover and the asyc and tunnel interfaces are defined.

Thanks in advance.

BTW, there may be a slight typo on the BB1.txt configuration. Under the example serial 1 I think the DLCI needs to be 202 not 201 as in the config (please corret me if I'm wrong). Thanks.

But I just want to make sure before wasting time. I'm consolidating my BB1 and Frame relay switches into one router (BB1). I'm looking at the V5 Vol 1 initial configurations. I see all the B1 - 3 inital configurations as well as the inital frame relay configurations. Now just to make sure, If i'm consolidating both B1 and the FRS I should just use the BB1 initial configuration (since it seems to contain both the FRS config and BB1s').
