Similar setup to one I have done on mine, expect you have 2GB extra RAM which I'm considering to move up to.

I've heard rumours that once BGP enables it slows things down? Is this true?

Thank you to EVERYONE who posted in this thread.   Dynamips/GNS3 is both a blessing and a curse.   If you have tweaked it much, you know what I mean.

I run it on a Macbook Pro, and it works well.   I would like to share with you one significant CPU related issue I found.   If I boot a computer, and it is waiting on a "return" press, the CPU sticks to the roof.    So when you boot all your rotuers, make sure to offer a "return" to each console, and set the exec-timeout to 0 to disable it, otherwise you may be back in high cpu land when it times out.

With GNS3 I'm having problems booting more than 9 devices it fails on the 10th giving the error..

Error:Could not communicate with dynamips server localhost

It may have crashed. Check the dynamis server output

Its the Dynamips Vol II v5 .gns file not modified. If someone has a solution...

I have a 3Ghz Quad CPU and 8 GB of mem on Win 7 - 64 bit. I've been using Dynamips and decided

to try GNS3. Any help on resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Not really played around much with GNS 3 but seems like there is a common theme here.....It does not hold up to well when running any number of routers never mind the INE V5 Topology.

To all GNS3 users on here who complain about it's shortcomings, tell me how many Routers are you going to be configuring whilst using a GUI during the Lab?  Not many I imagine.

I would strongly suggest that you all ditch it, along with Windows and run Dynamips/Dynagen under Ubuntu.  It's well documented on Hacki and elsewhere that you will NOT get the same performance levels from using Dynamips under Windows as opposed to any Linux Distro

I intend on putting a guide together in the next week or so to demonstrate how to install Dynamips on a vanilla install of Ubuntu to help both myself and others which I may post here if interest dictates.

Installing Dynamips under Ubuntu really is not that difficult at all it's just that there is no one place that pulls it all together and it just works!  Believe me i have looked.

I have a problem when starting INE topology v5 in GNS3. I only have 11 devices which can start.Two devices remain unstarted. I have a laptop with CPU  2.0 Ghz Duo Core , RAM 3Gb and I am using Windows Vista Ultimate. Thanks a lot for your help

OK I got it.You have to save the file in txt and open the file and go to save as and change the file name with extension .net .

Please keep in mind that although there is a new version of GNS3, the underlying "engine" that emulates the actual routers (dynamips) has not been updated in quite a while now.  GNS3 is only a nice front-end graphical tool that allows you to easily build topologies and push them to dynamips, which actually does the real work. 

For general Layer 2 troubleshooting steps, start off with statically setting all interfaces to 100/Full.  Also, rebooting the "switches" frequently helps.. 

There are many, many, many posts on this forum related to Layer 2 dynamips issues.  If my suggestions above don't help, try searching around this forum for more information.  I guarantee you your issue has been addressed AND resolved in a previous post.

Awesome Mady!  Adding the second hypervisor in there made all the difference!  The INE topoligy is working on my server: Quad AMD AthlonII w/ 4 Gig or RAM running Windows 7 64-bit.
