    DHCP pool

Do we have to exclude from the pool the subnet and the broadcast adresses of the subnet ? And what about the address of the router ? Doesn't the router ping an address before it leases it, and if it ping it's own interface it would get a reply.

    Thaks,

    Re: DHCP pool

As a general rule any fixed ip address should be excluded from the dhcp pool, including server and router addresses. It could be possible for the dhcp server/router to issue the address of an off-line server, causing problems when the server is put on-line.

    Raz,

You don't need to exclude the network and broadcast, but I would exclude all other statics.. One to watch out for is if in a question later on you are told "there is a syslog/radius/whatever server in vlan 123" in a completely unrelated question - I would exclude it from any DHCP scope for that network that you create..

    Cheers

Yeah, just the addresses of static hosts in that particular VLAN.

If you take a look at the configuration guide you will notice that excluding addresses is actually a 'required' part of the configuration. So even though it may not be nessesary, you would most likely get marked down for it.
